I wrote yesterday about my masochist tendency to run towards the pain of starting new conversations with strangers aimed at selling them my service.
It’s inherently painful and socially awkward, and that’s why most people run away from it.
I have found a simple way to cheat that.
Introducing: The Job Your Love Addendum
(Title taken from a recent viral sensation where a coach was roasted for telling people not to love their job, but to love their job instead. Easy to mock, but makes sense).
For every hard thing you have been asked to do to make your business successful, reflect.
The person who recommended it is successful and has some proof (hopefully) but they are not you. They just aren’t. What worked for them may not work for you.
Don’t discard what they said—there’s a principle in there for you.
I signed my first client from following the most basic, banal client acquisition tips. It did not feel like me. It felt weird.
But you know what? It worked. And when I mastered the technique, it did feel “like me”! This is why I challenge you to challenge your own feelings sometimes—they may be excuses.
What this looks like in practice
Make it fun.
Approach it with curiosity.
Do a little everyday.
No matter how horrible the task feels, do those three at least.
That’s how you’ll grow.
Cheers to our growth,
Taiwo.
